The general hunting season is the period of the year when a particular game species may be hunted without a specific hunting decision being required for each individual occasion. Hunters and landowners therefore need to know which dates apply to different species and plan their hunting accordingly.
There is usually no set limit on the number of animals that may be taken during the general hunting season, but hunting should still be adapted to the local game population. Hunting seasons are designed, among other things, to protect wildlife during sensitive periods, such as breeding and when young animals are still dependent on their parents.
When hunting with a dog, there are more rules to consider than the hunting seasons alone. The hunt needs to be adapted to the dog, the species being hunted, the size of the hunting ground and the conditions at the time.
When using a dog that pursues game, the hunting ground needs to be large enough to reduce the risk of the chase continuing onto someone else's land. There are also specific requirements for tracking wounded game, where in certain cases a trained tracking dog must be available within two hours.
For some types of bird hunting, you also need a dog that can retrieve or locate shot birds. The rules vary depending on the species, type of hunting and time of day, so it is always important to check the requirements that apply to the particular hunt.
During a hunt, a dog can quickly cover long distances and disappear from sight. With a GPS-based dog tracker, you can follow your dog's position and see its movements directly on the map.
MiniFinder Rex uses GPS to determine the dog's position and the mobile network to send this information to the MiniFinder Hunter app. There you can follow your dog in real time, see other members of the hunting team and get a clearer overview of how the hunt is progressing.
