In recent years, the demand for GPS-based safety alarms has increased significantly among Swedish municipalities.
This trend is particularly evident in the latest procurement within the Västra Götaland region, where MiniFinder’s partner Posifon has been awarded the contract for mobile safety alarms. The agreement includes 37 out of the region’s 49 municipalities and could result in the delivery of up to 10,000 units over a four-year period.
An increasing number of municipalities are replacing traditional, stationary safety alarms with modern mobile alternatives. Older systems are limited to the user’s home and rely on landline connections, making them vulnerable to outages and unusable outside the residence. GPS alarms provide a more flexible solution, functioning independently of fixed networks and ensuring usability both indoors and outdoors.
These alarms offer greater independence for users through features such as real-time positioning, an emergency button, and safety zones. In addition to enhancing security for individuals and their families, this technology also eases the workload for healthcare and caregiving staff. This shift is part of a broader digital transformation in welfare technology, where GPS alarms, remote monitoring via cameras, and automated medication reminders are becoming increasingly common in municipal care and healthcare services.
According to the National Board of Health and Welfare, 62 percent of municipalities already provide GPS alarms for elderly individuals living at home, highlighting the growing adoption of this technology. MiniFinder looks forward to continuing its mission of delivering innovative solutions that enhance safety and independence for users across the country.
